A 25,000-year-old pyramid in Indonesia has caused major controversy among archaeologists: 'There is no evidence of it being man-made,' they said.

According to an article by the Institute of Sciences of Indonesia and published in the journal Archaeological Prospection, a layer of the Pyramid of Gunung Padang in Indonesia was built in the year 25,000 BC, being considered to be the oldest in the world so far. The study was directed by Danny Hilman Natawidjaja and raises questions about whether the pyramid's construction was man-made. Researchers argue that the core of the pyramid consists of naturally formed andesite lava that was then sculpted and coated, suggesting that advanced masonry skills existed that were apparently not known during the last glacial age.

By tracing the interior of the slope using seismic waves, scientists discovered evidence that the pyramid houses a complex network of cavities and hidden chambers, some up to 15 meters long and with ceilings 10 meters high.

The research challenges the conventional belief that advanced construction techniques only emerged with the development of agriculture about 1,000 years ago, suggesting earlier origins of such skills. Gunung Padang being older, it would mean that pyramid-building civilizations existed thousands of years earlier than thought.
