Ancient Symbols and their meaningSource: Ancient-symbols Like written language, symbols carry with them meaning that allows us to communicate with each other. But unlike language, many ancient symbols also contain something more. A deep meaning that lies in the base of our subconscious. Carl Jung called those symbols Archetypes as archaic images or universal thought-forms that influence the feelings and action of an individual. He proposed that these images, patterns or prototypes for ideas are derived from the universal or collective unconscious. According to Jung, the collective unconscious is an inherited psyche or reservoir of experience and is common to all members of a specific species. Archetypes can be described as blueprints of our souls. These are primordial images or patterns of behavior that we are born with. The great Greek philosopher, Plato is credited with originating the concept of Archetypes. Other important notes about symbols from ancient times are that they often carry more than 1 meaning. For example, a plus sign + can mean cross such as in religion or it can mean the 4 cardinal directions, north, south, east and west. |
Eye of HorusThe ancient civilization of Egypt gave birth to numerous powerful symbols that are still used even today, including the beautiful Eye of Horus. With curved lines around a solid iris, this mystical symbol brings protection, royal power, and even good health. It is said that the eye was a symbol for the goddess Wadjet or the Whole One. Records state that Wadjet was believed to have risen from the image of a cobra rising up. Through the years, this goddess has been associated with others such as Bast, Mut, and Hathor. Archeological findings even reveal that the symbol was used in mummies and funerary amulets, to ward off evil and protect kings even in death. It is also believed that the Rx symbol used in the medical profession has its roots based on the Eye of Horus. A closer look at this symbol reveals that it is made out of six different pieces, which could refer to the six different senses of man: sight, smell, though, hearing, taste, and touch. Complex fractions may be applied to each piece. It is interesting to note that if all pieces were added together, the whole would not amount to 64/64 or 1, but 63/64. Some say that the remaining 1/64 could represent the impossibility of perfection. |

Genesa CrystalCreated in 1940 by an agricultural geneticist, Dr. Derald Langham, the Genesa Crystal takes the shape of a circular geometric sculpture that holds the full potential for infinite love, wisdom, energy, and faith for an infinite velocity and for eternal time. He discovered this magical shape through his studies of cell development, wherein he saw that all living things shared an 8-cell stage of development. When he used this circular shape in gardening and planting in South America, Dr. Langham noticed that plants grew healthier and better. Looking at the Genesa Crystal closely reveals five platonic solids (the building blocks of organic life) within its design, giving the shape much mystical power. It is said that the Genesa Crystal can be used to promote harmony, increase physical well-being, improve emotional control and mental clarity and increase vital energy. Many people use huge, life-sized Genesa Crystals as a conducive place for meditation and prayer, while others wear Genesa Crystal pendants to align the spiritual body with the physical body and to enhance healing. Others also use the Genesa Crystal to attract love, peace and good health within an environment. Some even put stones inside the shape to enhance its power. The Genesa Crystal may be used for cleansing the environment, promoting healing for medical conditions, for achieving balance in life or as an aid in meditation, yoga and spiritual breathing. |

If I let my Ego relax, how can I problem solve or get anything done in daily life?Source: Miranda Macpherson |
Ego relaxation is not to be confused with being passive or resigned, or neglecting your ordinary responsibilities in life. It is simply an invitation for the “me” who feels separate, feels insecure and afraid, and thus reverts to historical patterns of control to get things done to relax. While this separate self feels like “me,” it is really a network of adaptive defenses, beliefs and learned strategies laid down between the age of 0-5 that you have come to think of as “me.” Why put a 5 year old in charge of your life? This ego self is not wrong or bad, but it only knows how to repeat the past onto the future — thus recycling your stress and contracted perspective on life. Ego Relaxation invites you to compassionately recognize these stress patterns for what they are, and let your identification with this structure relax. This is how you get out of your own way, genuinely enter the present moment and find a more fluid, mature response to the situations you face. Here is an example of how that might look: Perhaps you recognize that while responding to emails you are getting triggered into a stress pattern, you could: Just stop for a few minutes and be nothing, do nothing, get nothing…relax the attempts to fix, change or control your state. See if you can allow everything be as it is. You do not need to follow your judgmental thoughts about who you are because this is happening. Just be here, feel everything, do nothing. When you feel present, open and undefended, ask “what’s needed now”? Just let those three words ripple through you without grasping for a response. Then return to your activity, you will likely notice that there is more flow, more ease. It is often a delightful surprise to discover that your functioning is cleaner and more efficient when it is not directed by a “self” that believes it is all alone and must figure out how to handle everything on its own. |
